Dragon Quest IX "Palace Oboe" theme music box rare Japan Sankyo Koichi Sugiyama
$134.99
On offer is a rare Dragon Quest IX music box that plays the theme: 'The Palace Oboe' This is a Japanese music box item manufactured by Sankyo Music. I purchased this wonderful item from a hobby shop in Hokkaido awhile back and have never seen another one like it. Nidec-Sankyo of Nagano, Japan, is well known as one of the most prolific and high-quality music box producers in the world.
This music box plays 'The Palace Oboe,' the castle theme from Dragon Quest IX. The Japanese titles, as written on the lid, is Okyu no Oboe. Note that some websites give the translation as 'Oboe Melody in the Castle.' According to the Video Game Music Database, these jingles were composed by the famous Koichi Sugiyama, who has composed all of the Dragon Quest series music since the 1980s. He is famous in Japan for not only composing Dragon Quest music into his 90s but also espousing some horrible right-wing politics, such as claiming that Japan did not engage in war crimes during WWII. The box itself comes in a brown plastic case with gold colored screenprinting on top. The bottom has gold screws and a gold winding key embossed with the famous Sankyo Music logo.
